I'm certain the HD is fine and will open the Toshiba, extracate the HD and investigate.
Yep; HD is health. Attaching the XP hd to the new W7 laptop and viewing via the Disk Manager,
the partition is just fine. Permissions needed to be changed, but once done, I can scrape off whatever is necessary.

Looks very reasonable to me. You know how W7 has {Home,Public,Work} profiles for the network connection - -
I found that a given access (say 137,445 } had a two column choice for active/inactive {Home / Public}.
The WORK profile shows up as Domain; go figure.

A neat feature( CP->Firewall->Advanced) you can click on the column headings and see the rules
by Profile, Permissions{allow/deny}, Enabled{yes/no} ... sure helps understand the scope.

Opening the Advanced Settings is quite sad - - it clearly shows just how complex network security is.

hmm; what's your recommendation for a Win/7 system?

In Topic: Folders open very slowly after installing IE8

Gave up on IE8 and regressed to IE7; Locak Folder Open was just terrible on IE8 but resolved with IE7.

btw: the environment is XP/Pro, SP2
(and I've elected to freeze at this level untill I get a machine that will run Win7/Pro adequately).
