Basically higher number = better

Not sure how much of a difference, based on your other components and RAM situation - part of my recommendation to upgrade.

They have the same GPU (graphic processor)

The differences between them come down to core clock speed, the type of memory used (GDDR3 vs. GDDR5) and the type of cooling solution (single-slot vs. double-slot).

===================================

4850 has a core clock rate of 625MHz, 512MB of DDR3 clocked at 1GHz DDR (2GHz effective)

4870 is a dual-slot, running at 750 MHz, and it carries 512MB of DDR5 clocked at a 1.8GHz DDR (3.6GHz effective)

===================================

***My opinion***
If you plan to game at 1920x1080 or higher go with 4870
If you plan to game at 1600x1200 or lower go with 4850

The higher the resolution you use = the more benefit you will get out of the better card.
The lower the resolution you use = the less benefit you will get out of the better card.

^ The highest resolution I can go on is 1680x1050.I assume that is based on the current video card? Regardless it basically isn't much difference I can see.o I can go w/ the 4850.

Yes it all can be transferred easily.

Sometimes what people do is take a picture when you open your case, then when you put everything in the new case you will have a reference.

Of course if you are unsure on anything you can ask here as well.

Note: Make sure you unplug your power supply prior to removing any cables/components from the old case. Also, don't plug the new power supply in until everything is hooked up.

Other than that, I think you are good and will probably enjoy doing this.

A good trick I have used over the years is to put cardboard down. Its minimises the risk of you shocking your hardware.
Remember to keep everything away from carpet and any other static products like some plastic packaging.
Also don't unwrap hardware until you really need to.

All this minimises the risk of you damaging something before its up and running.

http://cgi.ebay.com/...em=110485499331

This is the case I purchased. It comes w/ a 500w PSU and thermal compound.Do I need to really buy an Anti-Static Wrist Strap or can I just use cardboard, like someone suggested above?

Do I really need to get more RAM in order for the video card to work properly? If so where I can get 2 gb for 25 bucks? Where can I get an ATI Radeon HD 4850 1GB for cheap? I have tried ebay already.

When you start the system before it boots tap the key to enter BIOS, usually DEL, F1, F2

Go to Boot Priority and set the primary boot device to your hard drive. Make sure there is no cd in the drive.

Almost a year later I still have not bought the parts for my pc.

The requirements for this game in particular.

2.4 GHz P4 processor or equivalent

FOR WINDOWS VISTA
  • 2.4 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
  • 1.5 GB RAM
  • 128 MB Video Card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
  • Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1
  • At least 6.1 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB of additional space for custom content and saved games
For computers using built-in graphics chipsets under Windows, the game requires at least:
  • Intel Integrated Chipset, GMA 3-Series or above
  • 2.6 GHz Pentium D CPU, or 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo, or equivalent
  • 0.5 GB additional RAM
What motherboard can I buy w/ a processor that will work with (The Sims 3 for example)
I bought a tower w/ a 500 w psu.It needs a motherboard,processor and what else? I already have a HD,and CD rom drive.

Which one of what is better?

You should be fine with that processor for the requirements listed above.

Yes I clicked on the image - is that the processor you will be installing the new build? In other words - are you going to need a motherboard to match that processor

Make sure the motherboard has a PCI Express 2.0 x16 Slot on it for either of those graphics cards - I would go with the 4850
