This laptop works fine for now but the problem it has is i cant find a key, code, button, chain, starter, motor, etc. lol
to turn on the wireless for this laptop.
There is a switch in the front left side on the pc that has a orange light on that stays on all the time i dont care which way you turn the switch (left or right).
is there a special key code "example ( fn+ w)" ?
I'am beginning to think that the switch is bad and just wont work.
now if i put in a wireless "usb adaptor" it will connect to the internet no problem it just wont work with that switch,
does anyone have this problem or had this problem that could tell me what to do i'am at a dead end.
thanks ahead of time.

need make and model of the laptop.
My Toshiba Satellite has FN+F8 PLUS the slide switch. I never use the FN trick and always use the slide switch.
Be sure to verify (device manager) that the WiFi is enabled w/o any red/yellow flags

Do you have service pack 3 or later?
If so...
Per Microsoft:
If you have a third-party wireless network adapter, make sure that the device is supported by Windows XP SP3, or make sure that the manufacturer of your wireless network adapter has new drivers available that support Windows XP SP3 before you perform the installation. If you are not sure, contact the manufacturer of your wireless network adapter.
And... sp37746 looks to be the most recent driver that I was able to find for that laptop, and it is not compatible with SP3 - it is available for XP SP 2.
Your best bet may be to contact HP and ask them if they ever released a driver for your laptop that was compatible with your service pack.
How to check what service pack you have:
Click Start -> Right Click on My Computer -> Select Properties
