NAS: Network Accessible Storage
Typically attaches directly to your router (and should have a static IP address) and can be accessed by any system attached to that router, even hetrogenious system types {Linux, OS X, Unix, Windows}.

There many configurations(internally) of NAS devices and the price range varies significantly.

Features frequently seen include
  • Drive Interface SATA, IDE, iScsi
  • Network Interface 10/100/1000
  • Num Drives Supported
  • Print Server
  • Wireless Built In
  • Raid (0,1,5,jbod)
  • Drives Hot Swappable
here's a comparison table of NAS devices for mfg, features and prices which you can sort by clicking the column headings.
