Welcome to Tech-101
So your monitor is going black when you start up the Pc after 2 seconds or so?
Is there a light on the front of the monitor? Usually there would be a blue light or something similar - when the screen goes black does this change colour usually to a yellow/amber colour.
Obvious area to check which I'm sure you have would be to double check all the connections to the PC and monitor - make sure power cables and VGA/DVI cable are correctly plugged in.
On the front of the monitor there will probably be a button that says Auto or just an "A". Press that to make sure the default settings are applied.
Now moving on is this a new monitor? Can you give me the full name...if I search for Gateway DCDI I don't get many specific results.
If its a new monitor is the old one working correctly with the new cables? Does this one say on for a longer period of time?
