I play a game called WORD TORNADO that REQUIRES Java to be able to play. It checks my Java every time I log in to play. I go through the game creators website to play it. I have the latest version of Java. Using JRE version 1.6.0_26. The last week or so it has been using almost 100% of my system resources. It is so maddening. I can't even play the game when that happens. It freezes and the indicator light on the PC goes nuts! After an hour or so it calms down and I can play. I have done an MSCONFIG and do not have a lot of unecessary things running in the background. I have a pentium 4 PC 2.4 GHz with 1.25 gigs of SDRAM. I have two internal hard disk drives that are 40 gigs each. I have only the operating system and programs installed on the C: drive. All other things are stored on the second internal drive or one of two other external hard drives. I even keep my documents and email store folders on the second drive so if C crashes I do not lose anything I care about. I am running Windows XP Home Edition service pack 3. I hope this is enough info. (I use a cable modem). I found this site by googling my issue which led me to this site. The page I saw first before I registered with this site said that the latest version of Java is 'bloated' but did not tell you what to do about it. It said that Java now includes some security stuff from McAfee. That is all I know (I think...). Can anyone tell me if they have had this issue and what to do about it. I have not done a system restore to try to fix it and as a last resort I guess I could reformat but that is no guarantee it will do anything about it. And that is a monstrous job! I Hope I can find my way back here to see the answers. Thanks for any help. ABee

PS...I accidently put this same post on with the TITLE od JAVE and did not notice it until I posted it. I knew no one would search for JAVE so I copied and pasted it to a new topic and posted it again with the correct heading of JAVA. BUT I do not know how to get rid of the one that says JAVE. Can anyone help? ABee

that and remove WHATEVER you no longer want or use.
Recommend you install Spybot Search & Distroy and use it to control Startup Programs.
I'll walk you thu that when you get it installed.

It is a far better version of the Taskmgr.
Launch it before you start the game and click twice on the column heading CPU.
This will keep the process that is using the most cpu on top of the list and that one can then be analyzed

If extras were installed with the Java package, they are visible in Add/Delete Programs, so go thru
that and remove WHATEVER you no longer want or use.

I will check out the alternate to the task manager. As for Spybot...I have used that for spyware but I use SELECTIVE STARTUP (ALWAYS!) and there is NOTHING checked in there. I go in there whenever I install a program also and uncheck the program to prevent it from running in the background. Thanks for your help. I built my computer ten years ago and it has been very faithful. CompUSA told me that I take very good care of it and they could not believe the hard drives were as old as they are. Long story as to why they even had my PC...but I got a virus from them and THEY at no cost to me cleaned it all up and ran diagnositics on it...and then I had them add more RAM. But I DO try to be very conscientious and take care of it so when it acts up and I cannot figure out what to do to fix it IT UPSETS ME!
Thanks again!

Did you ever get anywhere with this? We can carry on troubleshooting if not or close the post if you have found a solution...
Preliminary virus removal instructions - Reinstalling Windows - Memtest - Auslogics Defrag - Revo Uninstaller - CPU-Z - Stopping Startup items - BSOD!!
