Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II grossed $550 million in just 5 days. That breaks not just the previous record for a video game's release sales, but also the record for box office movies which was previously held by Harry Potter at around $350 million.

It was predicted that Activision's game may break the all-time video-game sales record set last year by Take-Two Interactive Software Inc.s Grand Theft Auto 4". "Modern Warfare" sales could surpass the top films of 2009, Activision Chief Executive Officer Bobby Kotick said.

Well, now that numbers are in, it appears that they surpassed their own expectations. The interesting fact is that November typically isn't a good month for releasing a game, especially during recession.

And I can see why its sold so well - absolutely fantastic game. I sat for 4 hours and completed the Campaign I was so proud.

Also it seems that the dedicated server fiasco on PC hasn't put that many people off. The Multi player seems to be fairly busy and even more intense than the last 2.

Those are just crazy numbers. Everyone I have heard speak of this game has said it is simply great.

In the first 24 hours they brought in $310 million in North America and the UK alone.

I can see why they brought that much though because all of the shops near me that sold it had a special 12am-3am opening hours so you could buy it the min ute it came out and the queues were right down the street
