| The current WiMAX revision provides up to 40 Mbps with the IEEE 802.16m update expected offer up to 1 Gbit/s fixed speeds. (WiMAX is based on the IEEE 802.16 standard, also called Broadband Wireless Access). The name "WiMAX" was created by the WiMAX Forum, which was formed in June 2001 to promote conformity and interoperability of the standard. The forum describes WiMAX as "a standards-based technology enabling the delivery of last mile wireless broadband access as an alternative to cable and DSL. WiMax equipment exists in two forms. WiMax base stations are installed by service providers to deploy the technology in a coverage area. WiMax antennas must be installed at the (client) home or other receiving location. WiFi is a short range technology suitable for LAN based access

| There are many differences if you ask me between Wi-Max and Wi-Fi. First of all as we very well know, Wi-Fi is short range based and uses LAN connections while on the mean hand Wi-Max uses range far more distant than Wi-Fi. WiMax also is used for WAN side connections. WiMax is much faster and better compared to Wi-Fi. However both cannot be compared as both of them have their own purposes! So the result is even! |

| I am picking up an HTC EVO phone on Tuesday. I here it's the first WiMax-enabled phone available to US consumers. Supposedly you can connect 8 devices through it for $29.99/month of course. Still cheaper than a wireless network card. Will be sure to review it on here after I play with it a bit.
