Default Wireless Network tab?

The Wireless Network tab is missing under the Wireless Network Properties. How do I make it appear (if it's even supposed to be there)? I've been told that the problem is with the Intel Proset Wireless software that came with my computer, but I'm not sure. I have completely uninstalled that software, and the tab still won't show. I'm really frustrated with my computer because it connects to my home wireless network without a problem, but it does not want to connect to the wireless network at the college I'm attending.

Additional details:
Windows edition:
- Windows Vista Home Premium
- Service Pack 2

System:
- Manufacturer: Dell
- Model: Studio 1555
- Processor: Intel(R) Core((TM)2 Duo CPU P8600 @ 2.40GHz
- Memory (RAM): 4.00 GB
- System type: 32-bit Operating System

Network connections:
- Intel(R) WiFi Link 5300 AGN
- Broadband NetLink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet

The error message I'm getting at school is:
"The connection to [network] has been canceled. This may be due to user action or timeout."

First off does your wireless network properties look like this?

There is normally not a Wireless Network tab that I know of if this is the screen you are referring to.

It looks like this:

Although, I could have meant this window. There's supposed to be a box that says, "Allow Windows to manage wireless connections." But I can't find it.

Yea click on Internet Protocall version 4 TCP/IP to highlight it

Then select properties again

From there you can setup your IP/DNS or DHCP (let windows pick)

On XP/Pro at least:

View network Connections
->right click on the Wireless
->go to properties and click
and you get
the General and Wireless Network tabs (see attached)

Click the WiFi Net tab and there's the
[x] Use Windows to config ... and a list of last known connections.
In the Available nets, there's a button to View (current) Wireless Networks

I can't open your attached picture. It says that I don't have the privileges to.

You should now be able to see it, I promoted you to a normal member, normally it does automatically after you have 5 posts.

However, that is for XP as jobeard posted for Vista it would be:

1) First try - Start, and then Connect to which should bring up:

To connect to a wireless network that is listed in the Connect to a network dialog box, double-click the network name or click the network name and then click Connect. For a non-broadcast network, you will be prompted to type the wireless network name.

If the wireless network you want to connect to is not listed, click Set up a connection or network, which should bring up:

From the looks of it, I don’t think it’s going to be that easy if you have tried that all and still it didn’t work. In my knowledge, the best way to make wireless network tab appear is that you go to internet options and select internet protocol version 4 (TCP/IP4) and right click to select properties in it. Then you should fix the IP and DNS and DHCP. See if this helps! Please let us know if this worked!
