Default RAM Upgrade

I want to expand my computer memory.I went to crucial.com and ran the scanner and ill post the results below.

Currently installed memory:

512MB

512MB

EMPTY

EMPTY

Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-5300,DDR2 PC2-6400 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.*

*Not to exceed manufacturer supported memory.
  • Maximum Memory Capacity: 4096MB
  • Currently Installed Memory: 1GB
  • Available Memory Slots: 2
  • Total Memory Slots: 4
  • Dual Channel Support: Yes
  • CPU Manufacturer: GenuineIntel
  • CPU Family: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6300 @ 1.86GHz Model 15, Stepping 2
  • CPU Speed: 1862 MHz
  • Although the memory can be installed one module at a time, the best performance comes from using matched pairs of modules.
Q: Will my system recognize the maximum upgrade?

A: Possibly How much memory your Windows OS will recognize depends on which version of Windows you are running. 32-bit versions of Windows will see (and utilize) only 3GB or 3.5GB. To utilize more memory, install a 64-bit version of your OS. More information about OS memory maximums can be found at http://www.crucial.com/kb/answer.aspx?qid=4251.

Q: What memory goes into my computer, and can I mix speeds?

A: DDR2 memory with support for DDR2 PC2-5300,DDR2 PC2-6400 speeds.

Q: How much memory can my computer handle?
A: 4096MB.
Adding the maximum amount of memory will improve performance and help extend the useful life of your system as you run increasingly demanding software applications in the future.

Q: Do I have to install matching pairs?

A: Yes. Your system requires that you install memory in pairs.

Q: Does my computer support dual-channel memory?

A: Yes. To benefit from the performance advantages offered by dual-channel systems, you should install memory in identical pairs. Installing a kitted pair is the best way to ensure that your modules are identical, right down to the chip count.

Q: Does my computer support ECC memory?

A: No. Your system does not support ECC. Because ECC and non-ECC modules should not be mixed within a system, install the same type of modules that are already in your system.

It recommended that I purchase 2 of the modules below.

http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartsp...1250E3A5CA7304

My memory would be expanded to 3GB.

How do I install them?

NVM I opened it and took down this info.

Model : N275P-01
REF: NPS275CBA
INPUT 100-12V 6.0A
200-240V 3.0A

OUTPUT
275W +5V - 18.0A
+12V 17.0A
+5V 4.0A

MAXED COMBINED POWER ON
+5V +3.3 V OUTPUT 106W

cODE 0637

What the hell does all that mean?I need a 500w power supply w/pci-e connector.

Is this one good enough?

the only thing you need to look out for is

ATX vs mATX or mini ATX

mini ATX cases are fairly small.

And actually in this case I beleive it's more like BTX with the slimlines (hard to find these days)

if you want to post your Dell model we can check for you.

I'll go on Yahoo Messenger too, if you are still around.

Bad news

Stock 9200C power supply is completely proprietary...its half the size but longer than a standard power supply:

http://www.blueskyave.com/catalog/KH620.jpg

nobody really makes a power supply like this one...except for the dell slimcases.

==================================

only thing you can do is get another case, move everything into it and get a new power supply

you can get new cases fairly cheap on sites like
http://www.xoxide.com/
http://www.newegg.com/

Other issues with slimline case:

Will the video card fit?

I'm not 100% sure the compatible PSU will fit the case either - could look up dimensions.

If you do upgrade your case, you could also consider using a standard ATX PSU.

I found a great deal right here on ebay.

A case w/ a 500 w psu.I wonder will I be able to move exactly everything over to the new case? Would I have to replace the motherboard?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

If not then ill purchase that, transfer everything and buy a new video card.
